THE HEAD LEADS...
— The Anatomy of Wholeness™
A new workshop about how your system can organize poise, freedom and coordination for
you in whatever you do...
and how to get it working for you !
Open to everyone — you do not need to have attended any previous workshops.
Come to learn for yourself... or if you are a teacher or practitioner, come to
enhance and expand your skills

This new 2 day workshop will be very experiential — full of demonstrations,
explorations and practical activities.
In recent workshops we have explored balance and support.
This is an important and often neglected part of our coordinating system. But even more
important is what happens up at the other end. All the other coordinating mechanisms are
about what happens with your head. In all vertebrate creatures it is the head that leads and
the rest of the creature is then organized to follow in a coordinated way.
When I say the "head" leads, I do not mean that block of bone, brains and hair on your
shoulders, i.e. not the physical head, but rather the functional head
the reason why a head is a head. It is through your head that most of your attention
is grabbed (sight, sound, smell) and it is your head that leads most of your intention
(looking, listening, turning to move, talking and communicating, etc.).
How we allow these coordinating mechanisms to work in the way they are designed without
interference determines whether we can live any one moment with poise, freedom and
coordination. This applies not only in our everyday activities, but also in any skilled
activities like
dance, athletics, singing, playing a musical instrument, martial arts, etc. It also applies
to how the state of our own freedom affects others we work with, for instance, body-workers,
physiotherapists, Alexander Technique teachers, Feldenkrais practitioners, etc.
This practical workshop will use many experiential demonstrations to reveal the way these
coordinating mechanisms work and what interferes with them. We will explore how to go about
daily activities in ways that allow your system to coordinate freedom and ease for you...
and how not to do them.
And of course, you can bring up any specialized activities for us to look at also.
Out of these days you will come away with a much clearer understanding about how your
marvellous system is already built to coordinate you easily and effortlessly in activity as
well as taking away lots of practical ways to extend your experiences from the workshop into new
and better ways of moving and working.
