WHO IS IT FOR?
Open to anyone
— you do not need to have attended any previous workshops.
HOW WILL THE
WORK HELP ME ?
Do you
have some problem or ongoing issue in your life that you'd
dearly love to be rid of? Have you tried many things, and
maybe become better at coping by getting rid of the symptoms
each time, but the problem keeps coming back?
Well,
LearningMethods is a simple, fast, and straightforward way
to use your intelligence to explore what is causing the
problem, and how to change it and finally be truly liberated
from those issues. You're not learning a whole new method,
but you will be learning how to use the smarts and the experiences
you already have.
It really
does work. You'll be impressed with how fast you can make
sense of and change your life.
Here
are some of the common issues that people get help with
(but you can bring up anything):
— Tension and pain
— work-related, ongoing, or in specific activities like
playing an instrument, driving, using a computer,
— Nervousness and
stage-fright — in performance situations, giving
a speech or presentation, or socially,
— Stress and strain
— business demands, deadlines, being caught in rushing,
personal crises, etc.,
— Injury and healing
— Dealing with injury after an accident or chronic misuse,
how to heal and recover well
— Learning blocks
— difficulty or frustration in rehearsal / practice, in
studying or in learning new activities,
— Phobias and fears
— fear of flying, of heights, of driving, of dogs or insects,
other ‘irrational’ fears, etc.,
— Relationship issues
— on-going misunderstandings, conflict or arguing, being
stuck in reaction, jealousy, etc.,
— Compulsions and
dependency — eating disorders, quitting smoking,
over-indulging, anorexia, etc.,
— Self-worth and
judgement — self-judgement or worry of what others
are thinking, low self-esteem, envy and comparison,
— Worry, fear for
the future / stuck on the past — worrying about
bad things that could happen, or unable to let go and move
on,
— Other learning
and discovery issues — how to go on learning and
discovering for oneself, when to trust your own feelings,
how to allow rather than force learning, etc.
— And, of course,
anything else that you want to bring up...
Or you
may simply want to learn more about yourself, or
take your already-existing teaching or helping skills in
a new direction…
David
will work directly with each of you to help you learn
how to explore, understand and solve problems, issues or
challenges from your personal or professional life.
From
these days you will definitely take away powerful
tools that you can use right away in your life and your
work, as well as to teach or help others.
WHAT WILL I
BE LEARNING ?
Through
the process of exploring and understanding your own issues,
as well as by witnessing the explorations of others, you
will find that you are learning to:
— systematically
explore your own experiences and thoughts to be
clear what is happening in your life (this sounds simple,
but for most people, this is what stops them from solving
their problems),
— recognize the difference
between a symptom and its cause so you can liberate
yourself from having to endlessly deal with symptoms,
— understand the messages
of your emotions so that you can act instead of
react and no longer be a slave to your feelings,
— and be more in
touch with what the sensitivity and intelligence of your
marvellous system is telling you,
— uncover inaccurate
and misconceived beliefs and interpretations that
keep you caught in problems,
— let change into your life
without fear of the unknown and discover
the pathway to what makes you happy,
— get out of the way of your
intention, stop trying and making effort so that
your innate co-ordinations can organize what you want,
— be clear about
your own value and abilities and not get caught
in worrying about what others think,
— be yourself with
ease and acceptance, both alone and with others,
and see others as they are so you can respond appropriately,
— communicate more
effectively with more understanding of other people's
point of view and so that they understand yours,
— uncover your amazing
potential for effortless learning and deep change
the more you gain the tools to see clearly how things work
and align yourself with them.
— And this can happen
a lot more easily and quicker than you might think.
You CAN be liberated from the habits and problems
of a lifetime.
Come along and see for yourself — all you have to lose are
your problems!
It is very common that issues are solved right there
in the workshop, but the main emphasis is on helping
you learn the tools and techniques of how to explore,
understand and solve your own issues and challenges.
"LearningMethods is a very effective means of change
and to me
the two most striking qualities are that it is immediate
and it is permanent."
Professor of Education
LearningMethods is such
an effective and fast way to change in large part
because you are not learning a new method. Rather you are
learning how to use your own intelligence to explore
and make sense out of your own rich experiences.
Once you know how to do this you will be able to
solve your own problems and navigate successfully in your
daily life.
"What we often find in front of us are daily experiences
we repeatedly misunderstand, thinking that is sloppy and
vague, joined with fixed ideas and unexamined beliefs —
all driving us into a daily reality of reaction, misperception
and suffering.
A great
part of what we are doing in this work is to call this ‘reality’
into question by learning how to carefully and systematically
explore our experiences and then how to use our in-built
intelligence to accurately understand the significance of
it all.
When can
do that, over and over we see that what we need in order
to change
is all there in front of us. In fact, this is nothing
less than coming into our full
inheritance as human beings !"
David Gorman, developer of LearningMethods
The areas
we will get into will depend on your needs and interests,
so bring any problems you want to learn to solve, any activities
or skills which you'd like to develop, or any teaching issues
you have from working with others.
You will
come out of this workshop with not only a more clear understanding
of how to use your inbuilt intelligence to explore and solve
issues, but also with the experiential learning
that will help you put all this into practice in navigating
your life.
"What has transformed me is the idea and practice that we
can work truly from
the symptom as the place of learning. Just the framework
that the symptom is an
opportunity for learning rather than something
to get rid of is extraordinary!"
University movement teacher
WHO IS THE
TEACHER?...
David
Gorman is the author and illustrator of
The Body Moveable,

clinics; and in training courses for Feldenkrais, Alexander,
physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, etc. was also director
of a Training Program to train teachers of the Alexander
Technique in London, England in the '80s and 90's.

about the root causes of people's problems led him to gradually
evolve his Alexander Technique teaching and develop a new
work, LearningMethods (and an offshoot, Anatomy of Wholeness
about our human design), which is now being integrated into
the curricula of performance schools in Europe, Canada and
the United States by a growing number of
LearningMethods Teachers.

WHO IS IT FOR?
Open to anyone who is interested
in further practical learning, and in building and improving
their teaching skills. Pre-requisite is previous work with
David...
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
This workshop is for those who

you deepen your learning, extend your teaching skills, and
learn how to take the new approaches you have been learning
with David into your more effectively into your teaching

As such it will be largely driven
by your interests and questions, your experiences in applying
the work and where you want to go with it. David will also
introduce new areas of exploration and help you to be more
effective leading students and expressing the work.
What we get into can and probably
will, draw upon many aspects of the overlapping approaches
of the Alexander Technique, LearningMethods, and the Anatomy
of Wholeness, which after all are just slightly different
ways of looking at our ourselves and how we work, how we
get stuck, and how we can change.

In association with the CIT Cork School
of Music

WHO IS IT FOR?...
Open to everyone
— but especially for singers, musicians, actors,
dancers, public speakers, and other performers,
as well as teachers of all types of performance
who want to learn ways to help their students.
You do not need to have
attended any previous workshops, though the series
collectively covers the majors issues faced by performers.
Attending all parts of the series will be especially
valuable for teachers to learn the whole range
of ways to help your students.
WHAT IS IT
ABOUT? WHAT WILL IT COVER?...
This is the second of the "Liberating
Performers" series of workshop using the powerful LearningMethods
approach which has helped hundreds of performers
and revolutionized the pedagogy of teachers
all around the world. It is now a regular part of the teaching
curriculum in numerous colleges and conservatories in Europe
and North America.
As a performer you have probably
had some of those moments of effortless freedom,
when you are totally immersed in the flow,
where everything is easy, and your
performance does itself with a quality and skill that is
near your best.
"I am truly blessed to have met you and all the
help I´ve already
have gotten from you and your discoveries"
Professional Musician
This workshop will help you:
— understand why performers
experience this lovely state so rarely and instead are often
plagued by tension, effort and injury that
threatens their career,
— learn what allows
those lovely moments and how easy it is
to make them your normal way of practicing and
performing,
— learn how trying to focus
on, and control, the coordinations of your parts
leads to tension and effort, and in fact, why it
virtually ensures you will not be able to trust
your skill,
— learn how to let your
amazing inbuilt coordinating system take care of
the details so that you are free to focus on what
you want,
— see mistakes not
as problems to react to but as important parts
of your learning process which, used well, will
help you learn faster, easier and better,
"With this freedom now, I am a better artist.
My level is higher without having worked.
In the space of a week, it is incredible!"
Dancer, after recent Liberating Performers workshop
— experience how
effort and strain are not the measure of how difficult something
is, but of how much you are working against
yourself,
— discover how fast,
easy and fun learning new pieces and new skills can be
once you know how to get your learning
system working for you rather than interfering with it,
— understand why
repetitive strain injuries can happen no matter
how careful you are, but also how unnecessary they
are,
— appreciate the significance
of what the latest neuroscience shows about
why most peoples' way of learning and practicing is bound
to cause problems,
— and much, much more...
It is not uncommon for
these sort of problems to be solved and for you to gain
new skills after one workshop. Almost certainly
you will take away such a different way of seeing things
that you will be permanently changed, not
just in performance but wherever else in your life these
habits operate.
Come along and see for yourself — all you have to
lose is your problems !
WHAT TO BRING?...
Yourself, your passion for performing,
a willingness to explore and experiment, and a desire to
be liberated from nervousness, fear and undermining judgment…
You may want to bring a clipboard,
paper and coloured pens for notes. Recording is not permitted
by participants, but an audio recording of the workshop
may be available for purchase by participants.
