       Online Learning Groups

This is an invitation to join one of my LearningMethods Online Learning groups.

After having the privilege of leading a number of these powerful and stimulating online groups since 2010, I took a break last year to spend some time developing the book version and the online course of my Anatomy of Wholeness material.

However, recently people have been asking when they would be able to join a group again, so I have decided to start up two new groups:

  — a LearningMethods Personal/Professional Group, and

  — an Alexander Technique Professional Development Group.

These new groups will start in early 2019 (i.e. as soon as possible). As before, each group will be small — no more than 5 or 6 people who are ready to commit to meeting regularly, usually once a week. Some spaces in each group are already spoken for, but there is still room for a few of you to join in.

Group 1: — LearningMethods Personal / Professional

This group is for you if you are interested in learning more about the LearningMethods approach and how to use it in your life and in your work.

This group will begin at the personal level with helping you gain the tools to explore your experience and your thinking in order to uncover the misunderstandings and faulty beliefs that keep you trapped in problems.

You'll also learn how to apply your discoveries in your daily personal and work life to become free of those problems.

For those who want to go deeper, the group will naturally progress into helping you learn the skills to use your LearningMethods knowledge to help others around you, or to integrate it into your existing professional work if you are a teacher, therapist, medical or body-work practitioner.

Ultimately it can lead to certification as a LearningMethods Teacher.

More details are below...

Group 2: — Alexander Technique Professional Development

This group is for you if you are an Alexander Technique Teacher or experienced Teacher-Trainee and you want to:

— clear away some of the mystery and deepen your understanding and practical skills in the Alexander work, not just in your hands-on work but also in the pedagogy of your lessons and how to get your pupils thinking effectively and learning on their own.

— learn more about our marvellous human functioning when you are open and free (what I call the "Anatomy of Wholeness") and how this knowledge can help you and your pupils...

— extend your teaching into new and powerful directions by adding a natural evolution into the LearningMethods approach where you can learn how to get at the rich inner experience of pupils where all their fixed ideas and misunderstandings hide.

Who is it for?

— If you've had classes or workshops in "LearningMethods" and/or "Anatomy of Wholeness" you know about David's work and what it can do for you. This is your chance to go deeper into the work and gain the ability to use it in a practical way in your life.

— If you've experienced what the work can do for your teaching or professional work with others or in your performance (musicians, actors, dancers, athletes, yoga, etc.), then you know how powerful, quick and effective the work can be. This is your opportunity to extend your existing work and develop new skills.

— Even if you've not worked in person but have read articles on the LearningMethods web site or listened to recordings of the workshops, and are intrigued to find out more and experience it for yourself, the online courses are a way to get that experience.

— Or if you've wanted to join a workshop but there never seemed to be one near you, now the work comes to you, right into your own home via your computer and your internet connection.

What is the format of these Online Learning Courses?

The core of each LearningMethods Online group is the regular live 2-hour session each week, but there is much more that adds up to a rich interactive learning experience:

— the thing that everyone remarks on is the warm sense of belonging and community in the group, a feeling of safety, support, trust, and acceptance of being part of a group sharing and learning from each other,

— live video conference call sessions of 2 hours each week via Zoom — a private virtual network with simultaneous live video and audio using your computer, tablet or smartphone, all handled through your existing broadband Internet,

— the groups are live so the time and day each week of the regular weekly meetings are scheduled to suit the group members, usually in the morning for those in North America so it also fits for those in Europe who are in later time zones.

— the live conferencing system provides for picture and file display, live whiteboard function for drawing diagrams, audio and video file streaming, as well as recording the full audio/video sessions for your later study in our group archives,

— a dedicated (private) group e-mail discussion list for questions, discussion and sharing ideas among group members in the days in between our weekly live sessions,

— a dedicated password-protected streaming site for each group where all the recordings of that group's live sessions, along with various podcasts, webinars, articles, and other resources are archived and available for streaming and/or download and study.

— This site includes a range of resources by David Gorman, other Alexander and LearningMethods teachers, and more. These include audio and video recordings, articles, scientific papers, and web links,

— The resources also include pre-recorded webinars and online courses available for additional self-paced study so you can step through learning on areas like our human structure and function (Anatomy of Wholeness), balance and support (Standing on Top of the World), working with performers and performance teachers (Liberating Performers), and other subjects.

Costs and Commitment

The fees are currently set on a basis of US$ 75 per weekly session. There are usually 13 weekly sessions in a term, and three terms each year which more or less follow the usual school dates (that is, there will be term breaks at the new year between mid-December to early January, another break around April (Easter), and a longer break between early July and early September).

In order for the format to work for everyone you need to commit to being a regular member of the group on a term-by-term basis - see trial offer details below. This means you pay for a whole term even if you have to miss a session during that term, though it is usually possible to reschedule individual group sessions if one of the group members has a conflict.

You can pay for the whole term at once (US$ 975) or in 3 instalments (of US$ 330 each). Payments are due at the start of the term (or start of each designated instalment period) and can be made online by credit card or PayPal, by direct deposit in UK pounds, or by Canadian or US bank check.

Of course, one term is just the beginning. The Online Learning Program grows with you. No matter what level you enter at you can keep on deepening your learning and following your interest as far as you want to go, in fact, all the way to becoming a certificated teacher of the work if you choose.

Trial Offer:  If you are not sure how well the work or the online format will suit you, remember, you are only committing for a term. And to make it easier for you to give it a try, as a new member you can check it out and then decide about continuing after your first 4 sessions. If you don't continue, you pay only for those first 4 sessions you attended and you'll get a refund of any other fees paid.

I look forward to meeting you in one of the groups soon...

     warmly,
         David
